Hello friend!
I believe that creativity is a form of optimism. It is a way in which we express and connect, with ourselves and with others, and it’s a way we can leave the world a bit better and brighter.
What does creativity look like for you these days?
Whether it’s another round of illness going around, this long winter which has meant never-ending rain in California, or the demands of life and work and family, perhaps your creative spark has felt a bit dim lately. I know mine has, and I’ve heard from many of you that you’re feeling the same.
I allowed myself the quietude of my creativity this winter, embracing the winter as inspired by Katherine May’s book Wintering. And while there are a few facets of my life that are still wintering, spring is knocking at the door.
I am ready for a creative spring. How about you?
I am going to spend April re-engaging with my creativity. Part reigniting creative spark, park cultivation of my creative mindset, and part creative playground. My intention is to connect with my creative child in the little ways that I used to engage my creativity - simply in how I live and show up, rather than a big or focused creative project.
I don’t have it all mapped out yet. But I envision some combination of reflection and journal prompts, creative exercises, and loads of encouragement and TLC for your creative inner child. The cadence will be a few times a week, over the course of the month. It will be low stakes too. This isn’t about forcing creativity or jumping into the deep end of a new creative project. It’s simply about inviting the creative part of yourself to re-emerge this spring.
